Branch Outings

BRANCH TRIP TO CAMBRIDGE

Ten members set out from Melton to Cambridge on March 12th, on arrival we headed for the nearest Wetherspoons for breakfast. The pub was The Regal which by the name was an old cinema had 8 good ales on including Yeovil Ruby and Lomond Gold both in excellent condition.

Our next stop was the Cambridge Blue which is being renovated and increased in size, but what a goldmine of beers.
On tap was
Pot Bellied - Bejing Black and Aisling
Atomic - Strike
Cambridge - Old Scarlett
Oakham - Inferno
Cambridge Blue - Dew Drop
and last but not least Woodfords Wherry
The Bejing Black and Old Scarlett both excellent condition as where all the other ales sampled by our group. They also serve up 600 foriegn beers and lagers and since 2007 have had 1875 beers on tap. The Landlady gave me a tour of the renovations and improvements and a great thanks from the Branch for that.

At this point Clive who now lives in Cambridge (ex Melton Member) joined us and indicated we try The Kingston Arms next, then move on to the Berkeley Arms.

The Kingston Arms also had a great selecton of beers on they were
Hydes - Original
O-Garden - Pontypridd
Mighty Oak - Oscar Wilde
Thornbridge - Jaipur
Crouch Vale - Brewers Gold
Kingston Drop
JHB
Cairngorm - Black gold

We then moved on to the Berkeley Arms which had on tap
Milton Brewery - Augustas, Pegasus, Nero, Icarus and Justinian

All had a good day and the beer range on offer at these pubs was excellent. We only covered a very small area of Cambridge and it must be re-visited another time.
